When my boyfriend and I were in Los Angeles to view an art exhibit, we decided to stop at Denny’s for a cheap breakfast. We decided to share the Country-Fried Steak & Eggs because it sounded like too much food for one person – two steaks with gravy, two eggs, hash browns and toast. Since he and I are somewhat health-conscious, we expected that the meal would be fatty and

we could probably skip lunch after eating this breakfast. When the food arrived, the amount of food didn’t live up to its menu description.

The steaks were really pounded thin and about the size of a quarter-pound hamburger patty. I think there were more breading than actual meat. I think the salt and seasoning was all in the breading because it was salty. When coupled with the white gravy,

      • it added to the level of saltiness. The only way it was edible is to eat it in between two slices of toast, which we asked to leave unbuttered but wasn’t. The hash browns were saturated with oil and compressed into a potato pancake. The only thing I didn’t have complaints about was the eggs. I asked to have them cooked over-easy and that’s what I got; it
wasn’t salty and the yolk was still nicely runny.

Overall, the food was terrible. The cons are many: overly salted, meat pounded too thin, too much breading, tiny portions and too greasy. The only pro is that the eggs were cooked the way I ordered it. I have had better country-fried steak at roadside diners. It just shows that when a restaurant commercializes, the quality of the food suffers.
