Prozac (Fluoxetine) 20 mgItem: Prozac (Fluoxetine) 20 mg
I have been on 20 milligrams of Prozac (Fluoxetine) on and off for three years now as part of my treatment for bipolar disorder type I. It is a moderate antidepressant commonly used to treat eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder, which I have been treated for, too.
Prozac has been an interesting experience for me. It gives me this hyperactive, always having to move quality that goes away with benadryl. It makes me want to eat constantly for days, and then I am not hungry for the same amount of time after. I can think clearly, but only if I’m trying to think clearly. I have trouble focusing sometimes, but the main idea behind Prozac is to keep you from getting depressed long enough for you to actually accomplish something. I want to do things now and have trouble, as opposed to being able to do things but simply not having the energy or motivation. It’s a trade-off, but I think I am better off now, as I am happier with it than without. As I am bipolar, I am on few other different medications and treatment regiments to keep my moods in check and prevent mania, which can occur in bipolar patients taking Prozac. It has not triggered anything for me so far, which is excellent. I have had excellent luck with my medications, according to my doctor, but I think he is just an excellent psychiatrist with the right kind of training. It helps that he also has depression, so he has been on most of what he prescribes. I will continue to take Prozac so long as both my doctor and myself agree that it is helping me to be a productive and happy person. So far, it has done its job, and it only costs $4 per month at Wal-Mart with my insurance, which is amazingly cheap for a prescription medication. If you are recommended Prozac, I encourage you to give it a shot. Remember to stick with it after the first week, when most of the side effects will go away, until you get up to a therapeutic level at six weeks and can really interact with life’s obstacles without getting down in the dumps.
