The Philadelphia Eagles are saying running back Brian Westbrook should be able to play against the Dallas Cowboys this weekend. This is good news for the Eagles because they need him. But, I think the team really needs to start looking for a long term replacement.
Westbrook is easily one of the scariest players in the league. He has the ability to beat you both in the running game and the passing game and he is arguably Donovan McNabb’s best weapon.
But, that’s only when he’s healthy. And, let’s face it, he hasn’t stayed very healthy over the past couple of years.
Because he is essentially their only weapon at times, he takes quite a few hits throughout the season and that is starting to take its toll. Whenever he gets the ball, he’s a threat to score but he is also a threat to end up on the sideline with some sort of injury.
I think the Eagles are looking for another solution to replace him eventually but I don’t know if they will ever be able to replace everything he brings to this team.
If nothing else, if I were the Cowboys, I would be worried about him being on the field again for this game.
