I see the St. Louis Rams are going to stick with Marc Bulger as their starting quarterback. Was there really any reason to consider otherwise?
Look, I know Bulger hasn’t been having a great season and has been showing signs of decline for a while. But, name one other quarterback on their roster who will instantly upgrade the position. Well, I’m waiting.
That’s right, he’s not the best passer in the league but he’s still better than anyone else the Rams could bring in or promote from within. He was hurt for a couple of weeks this season and I didn’t see anyone replace him permanently when they had the opportunity to.
The other thing to consider is the Rams’ struggles can’t totally be blamed on him either. No quarterback is going to have any success if he doesn’t have a strong offensive line in front of him and he really doesn’t. There are also weaknesses at the receiver level and on defense. The only consistent weapon he has is Steven Jackson and Jackson is only going to do so much for him.
I think, next year, Bulger is done in St. Louis. But, this year he is the best option for a team that really doesn’t have much else to work with.
