The Packers seem to be ready to start Mark Tauscher at right tackle beginning this week. It’ll be interesting to see if that happens and whether or not it will improve some of the pass protection on that offensive line.
A lot of people wanted to see Tauscher starting weeks ago. But, he’s coming off a pretty bad knee injury and had to be worked back into the starting line up after being out for quite some time. This week will be a good tune up for him since they are playing a punchless Tampa Bay Buccaneers team and it should allow him to work some of the rust off.
I think he does improve them from a pass protection stand point. Allen Barbre wasn’t able to replace him in the starting lineup and kind of overstayed his welcome there. They also didn’t have a whole lot of other options; especially when T. J. Lang had to be put on the other side of the line with the injury to Chad Clifton.
Tauscher probably doesn’t have the skills some of the guys in the league do but he does have a tendency to get things done and that experience will definitely help.
Of course, the Packers have to be wondering what to do if and when he eventually retires.
