Edgerrin JamesItem: Edgerrin James
There is a time when every NFL running back realizes it is time for them to retire. I think this might be the time for former Indianapolis Colts star Edgerrin James. Apparently, the Seahawks have released James after signing him this year to add some depth to their backfield. This is a guy who was once considered one of the top running backs in the league and he’s released by a 2-5 team that he couldn’t even break the starting lineup with. That’s got to hurt. James, at one point, was a good running back. But, like most running backs his age, hits over the years have taken their toll and he’s just not a player who is anything more than a backup. And, I don’t think he was even that great in that role either. Now, to be fair, the Seahawks have other issues, including on the offensive line. So, maybe he could show some new life with a different team that has better run blocking. But, I’m not sure how much of an impact he’ll have at this point in the season and he might be better off retiring rather than facing the unemployment line or having to fight with some rookie for a roster spot somewhere next year.
