I have been following receiver Chris Chambers since he was playing for the Wisconsin Badgers. And, I’m glad to see he is getting a chance to continue his football career a bit longer after being signed by the Kansas City Chiefs a day after being cut by the San Diego Chargers.
But, if I’m a Chiefs fan, I wouldn’t get too excited by this signing.
The Chiefs at this point need all the help they can get and it isn’t going to hurt to have a veteran receiver on their roster; especially one that played for a team in their division and might have a grudge and be willing to spill some insider secrets. But, Chambers is not the same player he was when he was the Miami Dolphins star.
He hasn’t been as productive with the Chargers as he was with Miami and his production really fell off last year and this year. There’s a reason why he wasn’t starting for the team on a full time basis.
He’s also apparently been having some off-field issues lately too. With Larry Johnson already on the team, they better hope that isn’t something that will come back to haunt them in terms of a distraction.
Still, they needed help and I think he will give them some.
