I see the Patriots lost starting defensive end Jarvis Green for at least a couple of weeks. This is a huge blow to a team that is having a great season so far.
Even though I think he might be a bit on the small side to be playing defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, Green has been an impactful player for the Patriots. He’s not a guy who is going to put up a lot of numbers statistic wise but he is good enough to take up blockers and make offensive lines respect the defensive line so the linebackers can make plays.
One other thing about him is he is reliable when it comes to health reasons, only missing a hand full of games over his career with the team.
I think New England got lucky with this injury. It sounds like he’s already walking on the leg and should be back within a month at latest. That means he would be available for a late season playoff run and they won’t have to put him on injured reserve and try to find someone to replace him for an extended period of time in the starting lineup.
Veteran defensive ends are hard to fine and Green is a player that the Patriots would definitely miss if he had to miss more time than that.
