I was reading today about how Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner took the time to meet with some upset fans to talk about his team. That’s a great gesture considering the Browns are losing once again and the fan base is probably losing patience with him as an owner. But, I think he needs to take things a step further.
Lerner, from what I can tell, is a good guy. He brought the Browns back to Cleveland and he seems to genuinely care about the city. But, if he wants the fans to enjoy football again, he really needs to sit back and realize he doesn’t know a thing about football.
Let’s face it, he keeps bringing in coaches that don’t have a clue and running sound football guys out of town. This reminds me a bit of the Miami Dolphins before they got smart and brought in Bill Parcells to make the football decisions. The team improved almost overnight
Lerner’s strength as an owner is promoting his team and he should continue to do that and continue to fight for league changes that make his team more competitive financially. But, he needs to give the football decisions to someone who knows what they are doing, including letting someone else make the decision about who will coach the franchise. Only then, will his team become as successful as his loyal fans deserve.
