When Owen Daniels entered the NFL draft after a somewhat impressive career at the University of Wisconsin, I had some doubts about whether or not he would be any good at the next level. He played tight end and was a reliable player in college. But, he was considered more of an H-back prospect in the NFL; which meant he was a guy with some talent but nobody knew how to use it best.
I saw today that he is out for the season now and that’s a big blow to the team that drafted him, the Houston Texans.
Daniels isn’t mentioned among the top tight ends in the league but I think that’s because of the team he plays for. If you look at the numbers, he’s probably one of the best, if not the best player at the position. How does the saying go? “All he catches are touch downs.” In other words, he might not put up hundreds of yards in a given game but he sure knows how to find that end zone when it matters.
Unfortunately for the Texans, Daniels is hurt and won’t be back this season, meaning one of their top scorers isn’t available to help them make a run for the playoffs.
At least they should feel lucky they were able to land him on their roster and they will have him back next season as good as new; I hope.
