KFCItem: KFC
I know I have written in the past about our local KFC restaurant and most of those reviews haven’t exactly been glowing. But, even though I do feel a bit like I’m beating a dead horse, I have to tell you, every time I try to give the place another chance, there’s yet another reason why I don’t want to go back. A couple days ago, I found myself getting hungry for fried chicken. So, after some thought, I decided I would spend the money to go to KFC. My thought behind this was the restaurant had recently went through some changes; one of which was an all you can eat buffet. And, I figured maybe the changes included their food; both the quality and the price. Because I knew they were somewhat on the expensive side still, I ended up printing off a coupon for $3 off a 12-piece meal and, after checking with my wife, I decided I would get a mixed bucket so I could try their baked chicken too. After all of that, it might surprise you to find out I never ordered chicken from them. I went to KFC after work and, since there looked like a lot of people were standing in line, I looked around the restaurant a bit. The first thing I saw was their new buffet. It was the smallest buffet I have ever seen (which makes some sense considering they do only serve chicken). Yet, the price of that buffet was actually more expensive than a couple other restaurants around town. That, in my opinion, was a bit sad. My wife and I had talked about going there for the buffet one night but, after seeing that, I realized we were better off going up the street to Ponderosa, which is more expensive, but at least you have a lot more to choose from. Anyway, the line died down and I started toward the counter to order our 12 piece meal. I looked at the menu and was floored by the price. After taxes, it would have been about $30. That’s insane. I can go up the street to the local grocery store deli and get a much larger dinner for roughly the same price and the food is better quality. In fact, the quality is the whole reason why that price seemed so outrageous. Let’s face it, KFC isn’t as good as it used to be. In other words, I don’t crave it on a regular basis ever since they apparently changed their recipe. So, what ended up happening is the cashier told me she would help me in a second and walked away. By the time she came back, I was out the door. If that is what that restaurant is going to charge for a family sized dinner then I am better off going to pretty much any other place for dinner; including a chicken dinner. And, I think this time around, this will definitely be the last time I eat at that restaurant. Rating: 3
