Proventil (albuterol)Item: Proventil (albuterol)
Proventil (albuterol) is a steroid medicine that I use in the treatment of Asthma. I get it in the liquid form and I put it in my portable breathing machine when I am having an attack or difficulty breathing. Proventil is the name brand and Albuterol is the generic version. I have used both types and have had great results with both. This medicine is easier to use if you get the pre-mixed version and don’t have to mix it yourself. I just snap the little plastic vial top and pour the medicine into the machine. After a few minutes I can start to feel the effects of the medicine. It takes about 20 minutes before I feel the side effects.
What I like best about this medicine is that it works quickly and is easy to use. The side effects I have are a different story. The medicine makes my face numb, especially around the mask area where the mist comes into contact with my face. That area also gets itchy and tingly, but mostly numb. One other effect is that my hands start to tingle and shake. I don’t like that one. Not pleasant at all. I try not to take this medicine unless I absolutely have no other choice and its that or the hospital. I much much prefer the liquid version to the shot version. I do not like the shots at all. One thing that you need to remember when you take a drug like proventil is that it is a steriod and will show up in a drug screening. If you are an athelete you will be prevented from playing if this medicine is found in your drug sreen. I have been using the Proventil for a number for years now and have never had a problem with it. I will continue to use it and would recommend it to other asthma sufferers. Rating: 8
