Asurion for AT$T Mobile PhonesItem: Asurion for AT$T Mobile Phones
At first I thought this was a really great insurance company for AT&T mobile phones, but I’m not so sure anymore. I have had both good and bad experiences with this company.
I have had my phone for about 2 years now and have had to replace it twice. I try not to be careless with my phone, but it just tends to happen sometimes. I’m pretty clumsy, so I made sure to get insurance on my phone so in case something happens to it, I won’t have to pay the full price for the phone. With the insurance, I only have to pay $50 for a new phone, and that’s great. They put it right on your next bill, so you don’t have to pay it immediately. I know that will verizon, you have to pay immediately. So it’s better than Verizon in that sense. They ship within the next 2 days that that’s even better. I don’t have to be sitting around waiting for my phone for 2 weeks. This I expected from them, especially since I am paying monthly for the service. This past time I tried to get get a replacement phone via my insurance, they gave me quite a hard time. The track ball broke on my phone so I can’t scroll down. This limits me because I can’t use all the features on my phone. I can’t access my alarm, my calender, my memo pad, my address book, and many other things. It’s quite frustrating. Plus, the screen is cracking on the left side, which also happened with the phone I had before this one. This can’t be me thats doing that. I think the screen is poorly made. When I called them, I told them my complaints and they transfered me to a different department. Then, an automated voice told me that I need a copy of my recent statement, a copy of my drivers license, and proof of purchase, I called them and asked them what is considered proof of purchase. They told me that I could use the original receipt, the original barcode on the box, or the original agreement that I signed. I have had this phone for 2 years now and I live on a college campus 5 1/2 hours away from my house. I don’t have access to any of these, and I explained that to them. They told me that they would not just accept the statement and my ID. I had to have proof of purchase. So now I can’t get a replacement phone and have to wait until I can get an upgrade. This insurance company should have more options to prove my identity if I don’t have proof of purchase. They could have me present 2 forms of ID or something. But no they didn’t. They wouldn’t cooperate with me at all. In this case, if you think you will have to get a replacement phone more than once, be prepared for quite a hassle if you don’t have the required documents. Or just go without because that will be your only choice in the end. Rating: 3
