We have had Molina for a little over two years now, first as Healthy Options, and once our income stabilized and we were kicked off of DSHS we went to Basic Health. With Healthy Options we received free care but the saying you get what you pay for is absolutely accurate, the care we received sucked. We were constantly treated like trash, even from the company itself. I was rather sick at the time and needed to have an exploratory surgery, Molina had all of the doctor’s notes and their recommendation and they denied my surgery. It took me weeks to get them to agree to it and I had to call them several times. I found that most doctors would not take Molina Healthy Options because they did not receive enough from the state to cover their costs. Healthy Options also covers vision and dental services. Unfortunately the vision is only for basic eye exams and glasses. The frames for the glasses are very cheap and I would be surprised if the frames lasted an entire year before breaking. My son’s frames broke right in half from regular use. The dental care is also lacking and you get a basic dental cleaning every six months. I happened to have a cavity which we found out was due to vitamin D deficiency, I requested a porcelain filling and Molina only covers metal fillings. I did not want to have metal in my mouth but the dentist office would not sell me a porcelain filling even for money out of my own pocket because they believed that I would not pay them due to the insurance I was on. As an option for someone with no health insurance because of being laid off, as was our case, this is a good supplementary insurance. If you need any sort of procedure done, or you need to see a specialist, it would be good for you to call Molina and request the name and number of a supervisor with decision making abilities; you will save a lot of time.
