WGN Cubs Broadcasters-Ron Santo and Pat HughesItem: WGN Cubs Broadcasters-Ron Santo and Pat Hughes
I listen to a lot of baseball games through the internet. I love baseball and I especially love listening radio broadcasts. My favorites are Pat Hughes and Ron Santo for the Cubs. Hughes provides the play by play and is a straight man for Ron Santo. Prior to broadcasting for the Cubs, he spent 12 years broadcasting in Milwaukee as the sidekick of Bob Uecker, so he knows his role is to sit back and let the stories and comments flow. Ron Santo, former Cub All-Star third baseman, is one of the best at flowing comments. He doesn?t hesitate to talk about the game in useful detail and fill in with stories that are relevant to the action. When the Cubs are playing badly, which lately has been somewhat frequently, listeners will hear Ron groan. His stories are punctuated with I don’t have a good feeling about this.? Despite his moans and groans, it’s clear that Santo loves baseball and he loves the cubs WGN broadcasters are perfect for the team from the friendly confines of Wrigley, my favorite baseball park, where the fans act like Santo. Other broadcasters should take a page from Pat Hughes and Ron Santo. Rating: 9
