This is a comedy starring John Candy and he plays a very stupid private investigator in this movie. Truthfully, I didn’t find this movie very funny or entertaining. That is sad as I normally enjoy movies with John Candy. He did the acting well enough but I just didn’t find the gimmicks in the plot that funny. There was just one really funny scene where the manager of a building thought a huge pile of money was going to come out of the air vent and instead he got John Candy. Candy crashed into the guy and they went tumbling to the floor together. That got a chuckle out of me but the rest of it was very flat.
Throughout the film Candy dresses up in various disguises to spy on people and I suppose it was supposed to be funny, but it didn’t come off that way. He even dresses up as a woman. He crashes through windows, drives a car with no brakes, chases an airplane and spins atop of a ceiling fan to go flying off somewhere. None of it, however, made me laugh or even giggle. It was very disappointing. There is nothing worst than slapstick comedy that is not funny. I think perhaps his character was a bit too stupid or something. He had photographs of his boss smooching with the suspect, but he never even looked at the photos - just turned them in to his boss. I also noticed a few scenes that might have been borrowed from other movies, except the other movie did it better. Yet in the end he is successful - by accident - and he catches the criminals responsible for the kidnapping. So he was hailed as a great detective and he goes off on to his next assignment. This movie is 98 minutes long. Rating: 4
