Buffalo Run Golf CourseItem: Buffalo Run Golf Course
I have been looking for a golf course that is in Calgary, not outside the city, and that is also appropriate for a beginner golfer like me-in other words, a golf course that has holes that are not too difficult, and one that is perhaps not going to attract really good golfers who tend to be impatient with beginner golfers. I was also looking for a course that was relatively inexpensive. After speaking to a few locals, I booked a round at Buffalo Run Golf Course, mainly because of the central location and the fact that it is only 9 holes. I knew my husband would be bored, but I go to plenty high-end and difficult courses with him, so I knew he would suffer through a short 9 hole round for me.
The area around Buffalo Run does not look conducive to a golf course, but they’ve managed to put in a very nice one, though small. Although surrounded by major roads, once you are on the course, you can see gently rolling hills all around you, making it almost idyllic. The price is right for a 9 hole facility-we got on in the late afternoon on a weekday for $30 a person, which is very reasonable. While there aren’t any breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains or rivers nearby, like many of the courses in Southern Alberta, it is a pretty course. There are not a lot of trees, which I usually like to see on a golf course, but then it makes it a bit easier for golfers like me, who can have some bad experiences with trees. I managed to play quite well on this course, and although my husband was a bit bored, we were unhurried and quite relaxed; no one was pushing us to hurry, so I was able to concentrate on my shots. The fifth hole is the only really challenging hole in the course, Rating: 7
