“U Saved Me” (2004): R. KellyItem: “U Saved Me” (2004): R. Kelly
R. Kelly “U Saved Me” Happy People/U Saved Me Jive Records R. Kelly delivers us the second and final single and music video from his double solo album “Happy People/U Saved Me” titled “U Saved Me”. I’m surprised R. Kelly cut this album’s music video lifespan short with only two of them (”Happy People” and “U Saved Me”). This is R. Kelly’s God song (all the artists have them you know, i.e. Puff Daddy’s “My Best Friend”), he goes back to his gospel lyrics but not so much in the “I Believe I Can Fly” way that you think (which he usually does with these types of songs). The video is practically in concert (yep, one of those; think “Bump n’ Grind” but a far cleaner version). He’s sitting in front of the audience in some jeans, white sneakers, and a black opened buttoned-down shirt, he looks like he just threw some clothes on before he came on stage. He sits down, gets up, walks around, paces back and forth as he performs and sings about a God-changing incident during each verse (i.e. one verse is involves drunk driving and a car accident, the second involves job searching, the third involves guns and street hustling, and the final involves a medical diagnosis) and for each topic he covers, he has a prop on stage that he uses (a telephone, shopping cart, etc.). I could have easily filmed this video myself if only I had 200 extras and a big empty room that could pass for a concert, seriously, that’s how this looks. Rating: 2
