I never knew it would be really cool to use portable air-conditioner. I think this is one practical choice at home. We have traditional air-conditioners at home, one is window type and the other one is split type. Lately though, we started to use Edge Star Eco Cool 12000 BTU Portable Air-Conditioner.

At first I was hesitant to gamble on buying because I never had used portable air –conditioner all my life. I was doubts as to how it would perform. Could it really deliver the main purpose, which is to cool the room where it would be assigned? Would I not be just wasting my money on this? Now what encouraged me to buy this unit is the fact that it is has non-ozone depleting refrigerant. As the product information stated, it has been designed from the ground up for maximum cooling performance with specially engineered parts for minimal environmental impact. The product information further stated: “This type of air-conditional is engineered to meet Restriction of Hazardous Substances standards which restrict the amount of certain toxins in electronic and electrical equipment such as lead, mercury and cadmium. This restriction lessens the harmful impact these toxins can have on the environment and allows for the safer disposal and recycling of electronics and electrical equipment.”

Well I thought, this is a perfect choice for an environment friendly air conditioner. I am an avid supporter of going green campaigns so I wanted to start right at my home. If I could contribute in saving the environment through my air-conditioner then why not? So we bought the unit for a sale price of $500, it was originally priced for $599.

We bought the unit purposely for my son’s room but I was excited so we tried it first in our master bedroom which is around 450 square feet. I thought the place could not be cooled at maximum because the product information stated it could cool up to 425 sq.feet. Well, I was wrong, the master bedroom got fully air-conditioned in half an hour after we put on the new Edge Star Eco Cool. I was convinced with the efficiency of its compressor as it seemed to have speedily made the room cold. Another good thing about the unit is it is working quietly. This is so unlike our window type air-con that goes quite noisy especially during the night when everyone is asleep and all are quiet. The Edge Star Eco Cool will not disturb a quiet sleep as it really operates without haphazard sound. The unit is literally just whispering while performing its cooling function. This is so perfect for my son whose sleep should not be disturbed because he has some occasional graveyard work shifts.

And by the way the unit will also save you some work. It also has Self-Evaporating System which means it has automatic draining exhaust system so there is no need to remove or empty any water from the unit. It also has direct option that would run the unit in a year without any water accumulation. It is also easy to clean because it is portable and within the reach, so maintaining the unit is just a simple and easy task.

The unit is now being used by my son in his bedroom but one very helpful feature is the fact that is portable. We can always transfer the unit from one room to another whenever there is a need. Isn’t it a really great idea that we’ve bought this portable air-conditioner? But I think the best thing is that it is not hurting the ozone layer.
