The HappeningItem: The Happening
Here is another one of Mr. M. Night Shyamalan’s movies. Before I went to see it I was told that it was a horror movie, but of course I know better as I have been told that most of his movies are horror movies but they are usually actually fantasy movies. However, after watching this one recently I was unsure as to what to make of the movie.
The plot revolves around an epidemic of mass suicides which takes place in the United States. What happened is it first surfaces when people begin to commit mass suicide in Central Park New York. It is first thought that what happened was the result of a terrorist attack, however, that soon changes when the same thing begins to happen all over the United States. A man, Elliot Moore decides to leave the city with his wife to escape the chaotic situation. They are joined by the man’s friend and his little daughter, and they all go on to a train. However due to chaotic circumstances in Philadelphia, the train then loses contact with civilization. The group find themselves constantly on the run with what is happening, and scientists are unable to determine why exactly it is happening. The come up with various theories but none of these theories are correct. I think this is one of my favorite M. Night Shyamalan movies, as I have found many of his movies to be a bit boorish and tame to the point of being almost amateur sometimes, from the plot to the script. However I thought this one was a little better and would recommend it to many science fiction fans. Rating: 8
