Ciprofloxacin Ciprobay XRItem: Ciprofloxacin Ciprobay XR 1 gram tablet
I had an unresponsive case of typhoid fever about two to three years before. I already took Chloramphenicol religiously without apparent improvement. My fever continued to spike and reached heaven-high causing me to have chills, severe headache and a little delirium. After three days of continued torment despite the Chloramphenicol intake, my physician decided to start giving me Ciprofloxacin Ciprobay XR 1 gram tablet once a day. That’s when I noted that my condition started to improve. My fever gradually subsided and became low to moderate grade during the second day after taking Ciprobay with good compliance. I was discharged on the fifth day of hospitalization and continued taking it for 7 days more as home medication.
The only significant problems I had with taking Ciprobay XR is the dizziness, which is a common adverse effect, and the size of the tablet which gives me some difficulty in swallowing it. However it also a good medication I think, because of its once a day dosing which makes it convenient to take and ensures physician of better compliance of patients. Though it is a little bit expensive compared to other medications routinely prescribed for typhoid fever, physicians can be sure of better effectivity because of lesser incidence of resistance of typhoid bacteria to this medication. Furthermore, Ciprofloxacin can also be given in cases of pneumonia (I tried it once and it is also effective) and urinary tract infection. Special precaution should be done in giving it with Sucralfate Iselpin since Iselpin hinders the absorption of Ciprofloxacin in the stomach making it less effective. Rating: 8
