Codeine AllergyItem: Codeine Allergy
I got my wisdom teeth pulled out and had a tough time of it. You see, I was given something for the pain and didn’t know I was allergic to it. They gave me Tylenol with Codeine (T3or4) so I took it right away. When I got home, I was sick to my stomach and didn’t know why. I took another pill and I became severely ill, seeing stars with a cold sweat and nearly passing out this time. It didn’t take me long to figure out that it was the Codeine I was reacting to. I should have known. My mother, brother, sister, and uncle, all have Codeine allergies. When I informed my dentist of what was going on he prescribed something else immediately. What resulted from the continuous vomiting was what my dentist called a ‘dry socket.’ Because of all that, it took me a month to recuperate from getting my wisdom teeth out. What’s funny is when I went to see my family physician and told him I was allergic to Codeine. He insisted right away that it wasn’t an allergy. I said, “What?” How could this be, I obviously can’t take Codeine. You know what he told me? He said that I had a bad side effect from Codeine. It wasn’t technically an allergy at all. Really, what is the difference? When you can’t take something because it makes you sick, who really cares what it’s called? I still just tell everyone that I’m allergic to Codeine. Rating: 1
