Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 / 3.16 GHz processorItem: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 / 3.16 GHz processor
As you already know, the computer industry is advancing very fast and when you buy something today, it is just a matter of a few months to see much better ones out and to get yours outdated. Especially if you are into playing games, your computer will be outdated more quickly and it will end up spending more and more money for the hardware you use.
The most critical hardwares of a computer for gaming are, the central processing unit (CPU) and the graphics card. If your graphics card and CPU are good, then you won’t have to do major upgrades to play the latest games. So, as CPU is menioned, I am just about to make explanations about a CPU called Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 / 3.16 GHz. As you can see, this one has 2 cores and this is definetely much different from the old fashioned Dual Core processors. Core 2 Duo is the new version of the Dual Core series and a dual core processor has nothing to do in todays gaming computer anymore. When it comes to the clock frequency, Core 2 Duo E8500 has 3.16 GHz which is not met very often in core 2 duo processors. As you already know, there are some Quad Core processors out and they are providing some more cache memory size but also less clock speed. The count of the cores is always an advantage but Core 2 Duo 8500 is good enough to compete with them and it is cheaper than some of the Quad Core processors. However, I cannot say Core 2 Duo E8500 is one of the cheapest out there. As I have mentioned, if you are into gaming, you need to get the expensive one, but also you should spend your money wisely. The cache memory of this processor is 6MB and this is fairly enough for many applications of today. In addition, the cache size is not as big as the Quad Core ones but has some other advantages againist them. With this processor, you can play latest games in the next few years and I strongly feel it won’t let you down. The power consumption is also an issue. This processor is not different from the other core 2 duo processors as i consumes a fair amount of power (65W) and should be stable with many power supplies. However, a quad core one will consume about 105W and that might be a problem someimes. To sum up, I believe this processor is the right choice for a home user. It will also allow 64 bit computing and will meet many demands (gaming, multitasking, video ediing and more) without any lack of performance for years. I strongly recommend this product of course, with a good graphics card. Rating: 9
