Wild Water Adventures White Water RaftingItem: Wild Water Adventures White Water Rafting
While staying in Lake Louise, we booked a half-day rafting trip down the Kicking Horse River with Wild Water Adventures. Instead of driving in, we decided on their shuttle service, which was a treat in itself. The guide gave us a little “tour talk” about the Rockies, and how the Kicking Horse river got its name, etc.. but the best part was, he kept us in stitches for the entire ride. We were laughing so hard, we forgot about being nervous (it was our first time white water rafting and we were freaking out a little bit well, at least I was).
The facilities at their river base were a lot better than we expected. We expected to see something more rustic, but this place was new, clean, and modern. The change room and toilets were spotless, and everyone received well-maintained wetsuits, and gear for the freezing cold river and yes, be prepared to get wet our guide made sure we got nice and drenched. My husband thought he was going to have to take his glasses off (and be blind for the entire ride) but a guy behind the counter was one step ahead of us and passed my husband an eye-glass cord to keep them secure (he was happy about being able to see), so that was a nice touch. Before getting into the boats, we were given a quick run-down of what we were doing, along with some safety precautions. Our guide was extremely entertaining, yet professional, and I felt pretty safe, although you do have to sign a waiver before you go. Upon return to the base camp, they served us hot drinks (coffee and hot chocolate) and cookies, but there is no alcohol allowed on site, so leave your beer at home. All in all, the experience was positive, well organized, and well worth the money. We had a really great time, and we’d do it again in a heartbeat. Rating: 9
