“Extreme Makeover : Home Edition” (Tv show)Item: “Extreme Makeover : Home Edition” (Tv show)
I absolutely love “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”! This show really spotlights people in need and that there are people out there that want to help them. Everytime I watch this TV program, I cry. Not so much that Im sad, but for the fact that I am so happy for the people getting helped. Every week, this show features a family in dire need of help. They are either homeless, in need of home repairs but are financially unable to do it themselves or often time, one or more members of the family is sick. These brave people write into the show and ask for help. The staff of the show then comes to thier home and sends them off on a week-long vacation. While the family is out relaxing and taking a much needed break, the cast and crew of the show are hard at work, repairing, tearing down and rebuilding their home. The have a time limit of 7 days to complete this enormous task. One episode from the past is one that I was thinking of recently. There was a family who moved into a new home. They didnt get to finish repairing it and setting it up because the dad was sent on a deployment to Iraq. (This episode really hit home. My husband is in the Marine Corps and recently deployed to Iraq.) Anyway, the wife wrote into the show and asked for help. The family was using outdoor patio chairs and a table to eat thier meals on! The show came in and took over the house. They sent the wife and kids off on a vacation and got to work. They completely re-did the house. Added a bedroom for one of the boys and decorated it beautifully. At the end of the episode, the revealed that the husband had come home from Iraq and was helping renovate the house. He was sending videos home from “Iraq”, when they were actually filmed from thier yard! The house was completed in time and the family returned home in shock to this beautiful house. The most shocking part for me was that the dad was there to see the house and his family. For me, this show isnt so much about the nice furniture and beautiful decorations, but its about the story behind this family struggling to survive and about the people that are selflessly contributing to make one family happy. They are making a difference in the world, one family at a time. This program is definately worth watching. Im not sure when it airs in the U.S. But I’m sure if you go to thier website, you can get some great information on the design team, the different families that they help, gifts and merchandise and you can even apply to be on thier show. I highly recommend this show to anyone out there. Rating: 10
