A guide to “Women’s Health”Item: Women’s Health magazine
I was grocery shopping the other day and was standing in the check-out line when I saw a magazine with a good looking guy on the cover. Now, I love my husband, but this guy was hot! So of course my attention was directed at the magazine rack and I looked over and saw “Women’s Health” magazine right next to it. I thought, “What the heck”, my husband reads the men’s version, so why not pick up the women’s version for me. I flipped through it while I was waiting for my turn and found some really interesting topics in it. The cover had topics like “Foods That Burn Fat, Fights Stress, and Even Clears Your Skin.” I need to burn fat and I definatly wouldnt mind doing it with food. I also have stress, I mean, who doesnt need to fight stress?!? And my skin definatly could use some clearing up. I automatically tossed the magazine in my basket after reading that topic! After I got home and put away the groceries, I flopped down on the couch and started flipping through the magazine. On the “Fitness Report” page, I found a short article on making a comeback after having a baby. Granted, I had my baby 2 years ago, but its not too late to start. I also found an article on a having a healthy BMI on the “Weight Loss Report” page. I now know where I stand on the BMI scale and what I need to do about it. Now, I am a huge fan of salmon. Growing up in Japan, all I ate was fish and rice. On page 46 is 3 recipes for salmon. The 3 include, “Tzatziki Salmon”, “Salsa Salmon”, and “Tandoori Salmon”. This is great, especially for me, who cooks salmon after its been marinating is salt for a day. Marinating foods in salt, cant be good for your body! These recipes give me healthy alternative to my favorite fish. Now, im still flipping and stop dead in my tracks, on page 49. Now this page helps me in no way, shape or form, but this page also features a hottie. This page is an ad for “Men’s Health” and the top of it says “Great reading for him. Eye candy for you”. Do I dare continue to explain why this page had me caught up? On to the rest of the magazine. One of my favorite parts of magazines…Beauty! I love reading about it, shopping for its product and I wish I could be it! This section features topics like “Razor Vs. Razor”, which is a guide for women’s razors. Next is a page on shampoos, conditioners and finishing products. After Beauty is my most favorite topics of all! FASHION and STYLE!!! I love it! Page 60 had bags and shoes…enough said. Page 62 had more shoes! Yeah!!! Page 64 had a section on wool clothing. Sounds itchy, but its appearantly not. Some of the articles of clothing include “Smartwool tee”, which is great for exercising or to wear out and about. It also featured the “Patagonia Zip-neck Top” whick looks great for running in cold weather. Page 65, great outfit and nice boots!!! Next was a article on Denise Richards and how she is making it as a newly divorced, single mom. On the next page is an article entitled “I got your maternal bliss right here”. Sounds interesting, huh? Its an article about the beginning of motherhood. This article is very interesting and you kind of start to feel bad for some parents, but at the same time, you cant help but giggle a little. Now, the main topic of this magazine. Fitness, weight loss and Nutrition. This is the supposed to be the reason you buy this magazine. This section is very helpful. The topics include “Rework your workout”, “Snack decisions”, “Hit that spot” (which a 2-page layout on what to lose and what to love), and a helpful article on nutrients and what can be toxic and what can cause disease, which is entitled “Get it just right”. Starting on page 98 is an article entitled “Perfect timing”, which is a layout including several pages of helpful workout tips and different exercises. Towards the back of the magazine is a few pages with delicious salad ideas that are good for you and help you boost your energy, lift your mood, fight fat, and tame stress. Page 110 is the start of a scary article on how safe your hospital can actually be. Did you know that there are 235,000 errors in medication each year? In this article is a section for you on how to stay safe. It has important and helpful information on how you can keep yourself safe. Now, I hope I didnt give away all of the suprises in this month’s issue. There are still more interesting topics and articles in the magazine that need to be read. This magazine retails for about $4.99. Rating: 8
