My child has Severe Factor five deficiency. Amacar or the generic Aminocaproic Acid 25% is what I give him every six hours for mucus membrane bleeding. It will stop the bleeding normally within two or three days. My son has indicated that the syrup medicine taste terrible. I have to encourage him to take the medication and then watch him to make sure he takes it. The medication is very expensive. For a ten day supply it cost about two thousand dollars. I give the medication for a ten day period each time he has mucus membrane bleeding. Though the bleeding stops two to three days into the course, the medication is to be given orally for the ten day period. The medication has a shelf life of one year and must be kept between sixty and eighty degrees. After one year the medication must be disposed of. We have not noticed any ill side effects form his taking the medication. The medication is only available in the syrup form. This medication keeps my son from having to be given infusions of Fresh Plasma-24 or Fresh Frozen Plasma. For this reason I really like the medication as I do not have to take him to the hospital each time he has a bleed.
