Levaquin OralItem: Levaquin Oral
Levaquin is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections. The other name for Levaquin is Levofloxacin. It stops the growth of bacteria. Take it once a day with or without food. Drink a lot of fluids while on this medication. It is not recommended that you take medications containing calcium, magnesium or aluminum, iron, an zinc. These medications can prevent absorption of the medication. Antibiotics work best when kept at the same level in your system. In other words, take it at the same time each day so that the level of medication is is consistant. Some poeple experience nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, drowsiness, headache, and insomnia. If you experience any of that, go see the doctor immediately This medication can also casue severe stomach problems due to a resistant bacteria but this is very rare. If you develop abdominal or stomach pain and crampin, blook or mucus in your stool, or persistant diarrhea, do not take anti diarrheal medications. Some people have an allergy to Levaquin. The symptoms of allergic reacion are rash, hives, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. If you have any of these symptoms call your doctor. Levaquin causes sensitivity to the sun. Try to wear clothing to cover your skin while on this medication, and of course, use sunscreen. If you are a diabetic on insulin or other diabetic drugs, Levaquin could cause a change in blood glucose levels. Monitor your glucose levels frequently while taking this medication. Elderly persons can be more sensitive to the side effects especially if they are taking corticosterioids drugs such as prednisone. For pregnant women, use of Levaquin should be used ONLY when clearly needed. For women breast feeding, Levaquin may pass into the breat milk. Breast feeding is not recommended while on this drug. If your job requires you to have drug screening periodically, let your employer know that you are taking Levaquin because it can interfere with certain test such as urine screening to opiates causing false test results. TAKE THE ENTIRE PRESCRIPTION! It is unwise to stop taking this antibiotic before the entire prescription is gone. You may feel better, but the bacteria could still be in your system. If you stop the medication and the bacteria is still in you, your illness will simply return. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember you forgot. If it is too close to the next dose, wait till that time. As usually, keep away from children and pets. The Cost: 109.97 for a 10 day supply. Very costly. My husband has taken this medication several times for lung infections. It works very well for him. I’ll give it a 10 Rating: 10
