Mussouri is situated a few kilometres from Dehradun, the capital of Uttaranchal in Northern India. A hill station famous for its serenity, snow and handicraft is a favorate tourist spot for many Indians and foreigners who travel in the country. This hill station is located in the foothills of himalayas and weather gets very cold during the winter coming to below 0 C and snowfall is common. At night the whole Mussouri looks covered in the blanket of shining snow as if protecting itself from the cold winter and the darkness as if being frightened by it. There are various tourist points consisting of beautiful valleys, great himalayas, waterfalls and Indo-China border which is also visible. Cable cars are a good mode of transportation for climbing up from lower to higher points and vice-versa. Most of the people earn a living from tourism. They are very courteous, generous and honest. The transports are easily available for travelling through the whole of Mussouri and the modes of transportation are cycle rickshaws, auto rickshaws, buses and cars. Market places sprawl with beautiful handicrafts made of wood and jute. Woolen clothes and carpets are also major attractions. Cameras are available for hire and small photo studios can be seen. There are various video game parlours for entertaining children. Restaurants of different categories are available ranging from small dhabas to more sofisticated ones. Arranging for a stay is not a problem as there are many hotels that are well maintained and are commited to take care of the tourists. But be aware that hotels are occupied during peak seasons specially during winter months of December to February. The place is equally beautiful in summer where the pleasure can be derived by bathing in the waterfall and boating.
For me the trip to Mussori was a pleasurable experience and I had the time of my life enjoying the beauty, peace, scenery and video games. So, a tour to India is incomplete if you have not visited Mussouri.
