Monopoly Tycoon computer gameItem: a computer game
Monopoly Tycoon for Windows is a computer game based on the popular board game, Monopoly, with similar rules. What you do is try to make your fortune by buying and leasing property (stores, apartments, hotels). Unlike in the board game, you don’t role the dice. Your success, or failure, will depend on your strategy and the way you manage your businesses. The game comes on one disk in a plastic CD case. A detailed manual is included, which you don’t really have to read if you’d rather use the tutorials provided in the game itself. Installation is easy, you just put the disk in and follow the directions. You will be a given a choice of what size you want to install, 140 MB or 200 MB. When the installation is complete you will be asked to register, and then you can start the game. As I said, there is a helpful tutorial that will introduce you to the game and show you how to play. There are single player and multiplayer options, which you can choose from the menu. There are several single player scenarios, escalating in difficulty, where you must complete certain tasks. The first five levels are easy, and the computer will be helping you out a bit. When you are done with these, you can pick computer opponent(s) to play against and compete with. As the assignments grow to be more challenging, you must pay close attention to what you are doing, whether you are picking the right property, charging reasonable prices, etc. If you go bankrupt, you can usually see what caused it, so you learn from your mistakes. The multiplayer option, as far as I remember (it’s been a while since the game was out) required each player to have their own separate copy of the game, which is a big drawback. Yes, even if you wanted to play with your family members using two different computers at your home, Microsoft wished you to buy two disks. I think it’s a rip off. I heard that there are ways around it, but I am not so computer savvy to mess with that. I hope they have done something about it by now, but I don’t know for sure. Overall, the game is fun, all the little details like stores actually opening and closing at a certain time are very neat. I rate it 8 out of 10. Rating: 8
