Motorbike Yamaha YB100Item: Yamaha YB100 Motorbike
I bought one of these from a breakers yard for the purpose of learning to ride and of passing my test. I chose the YB because of the engine size - being just under 125cc for some reason it more or less halved the insurance premium but had most of the performance. Contact author by : Although from a breakers yard the YB was in pretty good condition; just needing a new rear tyre and some rust sorting out. This model of bike has been around for years and years, so is pretty well sorted. it is quite basic, with a two stroke engine that is air cooled with a four speed gearbox. The brakes are drums front and rear and the wheels are spoke type. The oil feed for the two stroke is via a side mounted tank (by your right leg) fed into the engine depending on engine revs). Performance is ideal for town use, but they struggle on the faster roads with a top speed of around 65mph. The gauges are just what you need - a speedo and light indicators for neutral, oil, high beam and turn indicators. To check the leval of oil, there is a gauge on the right hand side panel below the seat. The lights are quite poor, as the bike only has six volt eletrics. On the whole I loved my old YB. I passed my test on it and went absolutely everywhere on it, come rain or shine. It was reliable, comfortable and fun to ride. A great little bike. Rating: 9
