AKARI Emergency Light (2 bulbs)Item: AKARI Emergency Light (2 bulbs)
It is the stormy season once again and I wanted to be sure I have all the emergency equipment set at home for possible power interruptions. For that reason, I went to the nearest hardware store and looked for a good emergency rechargeable power light.
As I went through product by product, I was able to find an AKARI Emergency Light. For $15 I think it is decently priced. It has 2 fluorescent bulbs on its base. It also has 3 different modes. One is OFF, 1 fluorescent bulb, and 2 fluorescent bulbs. There is also a TEST button that I can press. The emergency lights work by connecting to the power socket and charging its internal battery. While connected, the emergency light just simply charges and an indicator red light lets me determine if it is being charged. There is no light turned on whatsoever, no bulbs turn on. Now if I wanted to test if the emergency light works, I simply just have to press on the TEST button and both bulbs light up. The other night because of a terrible storm, there was a massive power interruption around 11:00 PM. The emergency light was put to the test. What happened was it turned on automatically, with 2 fluorescent bulbs lit up. Since it was too dark to turn it off, I tried to switch from 1 to 2 bulbs. Everything is working okay. I think it saves some power if I only use 1 fluorescent bulb. I left it turned on for the next 2 hours. The next morning, I used it in the dark rooms for about 5 more hours, not continuous but with momentary on and off. It lasted around 4-5 more hours before it totally drained out. The light bulbs are about a foot long each, and they emit white light. Just perfect for reading or for writing compared to the yellow lights that might hurt one’s eyes. For the price of this emergency light, it is really worthy and it lasts a long time. I just have to keep it connected to the power source so that when an outage happens, the lights will automatically turn on and I will not have to worry about groping in the dark when it does. I have bought 2 more to put in the other rooms, and I bought another type of emergency light that can be mounted on the wall. However, the downside of that light is that there is no on/off switch, unlike this Akari Emergency Light. The former also did not have white light bulbs but only yellow. I do not like to have yellow light anyway. This is really a good buy and the price is a little steep actually but the purpose is for emergency. I know that it rarely happens but just in case it does, I am confident that I have a good emergency light in my room. I trust that the AKARI Emergency light will do its job regardless of when a power outage happens. Rating: 9
