Mike McCarthyItem: Mike McCarthy
When the Packers signed Mike McCarthy as their head coach this past offseason I thought he was a good choice for a young team. And, after seeing him through 15 games of his first season, I still stand by that opinion. There’s a good chance the Packers will finish 7-9 this year, their second losing season in a row. However, I see a team that has a lot to build on going into next season. Last year, under Mike Sherman, the Packers quit half way through the year. This season, with about the same amount of talent and almost as many injuries to work through, the team is still fighting in every game, even in games they have no chance to win. The biggest thing I like about him is how he handles Brett Favre. Every coach since Holmgren has been afraid to criticize the future hall of famer. But, when Favre makes mistakes, McCarthy calls him on them. I’m excited to see what he can do for this team once they add a little more talent. Rating: 8
