One Touch Ultra Mini glucometerItem: One Touch Ultra Mini glucometer
I am diabetic and test my blood glucose daily. I obtained a One Touch Ultra Mini glucometer through a free offer. I love this meter. It is small and sleek and can fit anywhere. There are only two buttons on the front to use for navigating the menu, and the menu is very user friendly and easy to operate. Whenever I get a new meter, I compare its accuracy with my old one and my mother’s to be sure that I am getting a pretty accurate reading. This meter passed with flying colors when compared to both of the other (very reliable) meters, and I have never gotten a bizarre or questionable reading from it in the nine months I have been using it. This has been a fairly common problem for me in the past with other meters. The lancet pen is painless and easy to use, and has the clear cap for testing on the arm rather than fingers. It’s best feature is of course, it’s accuracy, but I’d have to say its worst is the ability to get lost because it is so small! I could not find it in my purse one day when I was out and decided to eat at a restaurant, and had to skip the reading altogether. I found later that it had simply slipped under the fabric lining the purse. I keep it in the zipper section now. I have not had to replace the batteries so far. The manual claims that all the readings are stored and can be downloaded to glucose management applications, but I have not bothered with all that. It is nice to know it is so high tech though, in case I ever do decide to keep closer tabs on my readings. I am happy with the simpler applications– putting in the test strip, using the tiniest drop of blood, and getting a reading I know I can trust. I recommend this meter to all diabetics, except perhaps those who are visually disabled or have neuropathy in their hands. Although the screen is actually quite easy to read, it is a very small meter and it may be difficult for a sight impaired person to see how to put the strip in its narrow head. Someone with neuropathy in the hands might find the small size of it difficult to handle and would probably drop it easily. Other than that, it is 100% appropriate for any diabetic and I think most people would be very happy with its reliability and convenient, discreet size, shape, and look.
