The Biggest Loser Wrist/Ankle Weights for WiiItem: The Biggest Loser Wrist/Ankle Weights for Wii
Thanks to the Wii Fit Plus I am back to playing our Wii again. I must admit I stopped for a while and just found it hard to jump back on Board. With the latest installment in the Fit series however, I have a renewed sense of urgency to perform daily body tests and meet or exceed my daily calorie burning goals.
I even thought it might be fun and further improve my results by purchasing a few accessories. Specifically I wished to increase the difficulty of the games, and maximize the exertion necessary to perform the tasks. One such item I found was the Biggest Loser Wrist/ Ankle Weights. The pair of 1.5 pound weights are made specifically for the Wii and are compatible with the Wii Fit Plus, EA Active 2, and Jillian Michaels and Biggest Loser workouts. They are really handy too! Before I purchased them I had been trying to use my weighted kickboxing gloves with the Wii, but the bulky gloves made holding the Remote and Nunchuk really awkward and I seemed to concentrate more on not dropping the two rather than paying attention to the game. Now the two black and navy soft, padded, weights fit comfortably over my wrists or ankles and do not obstruct the two remotes at all. Not only was there nothing blocking the palm of my hand holding the remotes, but the two weights include two accessory pieces designed to slip over the back of the Remote and Nunchuk. How it works is this. You attach each weight to your wrist and then slip the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk into the appropriate accessory sleeve. Once inserted, you then use the clips found on the weight to attach a short included cord to the sleeve itself. So not only do you not have to worry about the weight blocking the controllers, but the clips actually make them more stable in your hands. Now you can be sure not to drop them because they are clipped right on. As I had played a few times with the gloves first, I was used to the additional weight. One thing I did notice was that I had to readjust the Velcro a few times during play until I could get it to where it didn’t ride up and down my arms during game play. I have relatively small wrists, so usually items like these are a little loose on me. Although the Velcro felt strong and didn’t move during play, I had to make them super tight not have them move around so much. For my trial run, I decided to test the new wrist weights with three of my favorite games. The first game I used them for was Rhythm Boxing. Here is where I noticed the most slippage and had to adjust them several times. In the beginning they moved around so much I would get distracted and miss my cues. As there is no time during play to stop and fix them I would wait until the game ended to make them tighter. By my last game I had tightened it enough to where I was not distracted by the slippage and able to enjoy the game. I then tried them with Rhythm Kung Fu and had a lot of difficulty. Although they were moving around less, they completely threw my timing off and lowered my scores considerably. I played several times and had my lowest scores to date. For this particular game I will skip the weights next time. The last game I tried them with was Rhythm Parade. Here my hand coordination was a little off and the timing resulted in some misses that I usually don’t have. After a few games, it improved a bit and I will still use the weights for this one next time. In all, I think the addition of the weights lessened my hand eye coordination and resulted in being distracted, having more misses, and producing lower scores. That said, I did get a better workout, and am less concerned with my scores than my ability to increase calorie burn. I think in the long run these weights will help my workouts quite a bit, and who knows, maybe with time I will overcome the distraction and get better at play while using them. If you’d like to try them they are available for 19.99 USD in the NBC Store online. They are also known as the NBC Universal Store online. Rating: 8
