Great Value 100% Extra Virgin Olive OilItem: Great Value 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Based on my research, this is about the best oil that can be bought because of its heart-healthy properties. The extra virgin olive oil is supposed to reduce the levels of unhealthy cholesterol while promoting healthy cholesterol. This is of course when a person sticks to a diet that is low in saturated fat. Not surprisingly, since olive oil is the best oil for the body, it’s also one of the most expensive in the stores, even when it is sold by a store brand as opposed to a national brand. For a twenty-five point five ounce bottle, Walmart’s Great Value brand of one-hundred percent extra virgin olive oil sells for over five dollars! That is unfortunately out of my price range right now, but in the future, I hope to resume purchasing this olive oil because it really is a great oil.
When we cook our food with this olive oil, it just seems to give the food a better flavor when compared with what we use now, and that’s canola oil. The olive oil seems to bring out the flavor in food a little more, and olive oil must have a little more flavor to it than canola oil because when we cook with olive oil, there is a slightly difference in the flavor of the food, and that must come from the olive oil itself. It just enhances the meal, and it’s also nice that the oil isn’t only good for the taste buds, but the heart as well. We’d still be using it today if we didn’t feel the need to conserve money on our purchases. Pure canola oil is almost as good and I can get it for roughly half the price for nearly twice as much. Ideally, this is the oil to cook, bake and fry with. It’s got flavor and it’s good for the heart. This comes at a price though as it’s an expensive oil. Nonetheless, I’m giving it a “10″ rating because when I think about it, the oil is worth the price, and I look forward to the day when we can again purchase a bottle that will last us several months on end. Rating: 10
