Slant Fin Futura Portable Electric Convection Heater - Model # FE-1500Item: Slant Fin Futura Portable Electric Convection Heater - Model # FE-1500
I bought this Slant Fin portable heater in 2007 from CompactAppliance.com. I have bought a few different kinds of portable heaters over the years and this was my first Slant Fin heater. I was doing my shopping via the internet when I found this heater. I was drawn to it because of looking for a heater that was not a fan driven heater and this one is the kind where the inner coils heat up and the heat radiates throughout the space. I was looking for a heater to be quiet and this Slant Fin advertised it was just that, very quiet. I was also looking for one that was a sleeker and more compact design. From the way it looked on the internet it appeared to be just this. I also liked the fact of the unit being slender and long in length.
When I received it I was pleased with it as soon as I removed it from the box. There was no assembly required as it was fully put together and ready to go. It looked just as I had anticipated it would. I read through the material enclosed with the heater and decided to plug it in and try it out. I was quite pleased with how quickly the heater warmed up and started to generate heat. I also liked how there is a thermostat on the unit which I can control how hot I want the heater to warm to. The heater was also very quiet. There was absolutely The heater worked very well and I was most satisfied with my purchase. As the months became colder in temperature outdoors, I began turning the thermostat up on the heater to provide more heat. Everything with the heater had been going great up to this point. The problems with the heater began when I started to turn the thermostat higher. When I did this I noticed the heater started to make a noise. It was a rather loud high-pitched humming sound. The only way I could get the noise to stop was to turn the thermostat down. What really bothered me and the rest of my family was when the heater would make an incredibly loud and high-pitched “buzzing” sound shortly after I turned the thermostat up. It was such a loud and awful sound, that someone would be running to the heater to shut it off. We also began to have issues with the heater tripping the main house breaker. If this occurred at night, someone would have to get a flashlight and go outdoors to the main electrical box and flip I contacted Slant Fin about these issues and they instructed me to pack the heater and gave me the address of where we should ship it to for repair or replacement. We packed it up and sent it off to them. The heater came with a 1 year warranty and the problems we were experiencing with the heater fell under the defective clause section. We were not charged anything to have it repaired or replaced because of the warranty taking care of this. We were responsible for the shipping charges which I felt was a bit unfair being that it was an issue of the heater being defective. It cost right around $40.00 to send the heater to the company. This is exactly half of what I paid to buy the heater. I was not very happy about this. I ended up writing a letter to the head person at Slant Fin explaining how unhappy this made me. I did receive a new heater a few weeks later. I also was surprised to receive a reimbursement check for the $40.00 shipping fee I paid to send the original heater to Slant Fin. I was pleased about this and felt they listened and did their best to rectify any issues or problems their customers experienced. Unfortunately, the new heater Rating: 7
