The Rosary Murders movieItem: The Rosary Murders movie
From 1987, The Rosary Murders begins with a priest being murdered at a catholic hospital and the news that a woman is leaving the sisterhood to marry a non-catholic. She doesn’t quite make it, though, since she’s the next to be killed, and it’s quite the bloody scene, too. That was a turn off.
Donald Sutherland and Charles Durning are the two big name stares in The Rosary Murders. Both play priests. The movie has some slow spots, but it also has some very good dramatic pauses and moments of suspense. Sutherland’s priest is more human in some ways than we see typically on the screen. He shows fear and fallacy. Belinda Bauer plays reporter Pat Lennon. I’m not crazy about the character or the demeanor of the portrayal. While she makes a connection with Sutherland’s priest, it’s odd. Kathleen Tolan was very odd as the first sister who was killed. I didn’t get a nun vibe or even a ‘I’m interested’ vibe from her. John Danelle also appears as Detective Harris. It’s funny, but I just did a review where I mentioned his ex-wife, Lisa Wilkinson. Both used to star on All My Children, so I think it’s funny that, back to back, I’m watching movies with them. The end is suspenseful. I can’t say I’d ever want to see this movie again. It’s a little on the disturbing side, but it was well done in what it tries to do. It’s just, I’m not fond of what exactly it tries to do. Rating: 4
