Hi, everyone! My name is Gladys. I used to own two schools, Montessori, and I taught many, many children throughout the years. Then, as I kept realizing just how many of my students were being very neglected, treated illegally, at their homes, I went back to college, obtaining a degree in Social Work. I worked, for free, as a court advocate in Eureka, CA. I counseled at public schools, worked one on one with students who came to me of their own volition, asking for help. Help was always given. A lot of people went to prison for the horrors they had inflicted on these innocent, terrified children. I decided that a Masters In Psychology was needed by me, as I found it so difficult to understand how anyone could mistreat children! Of course, this made me a more credible (free) Court Advocate for the children, as well. I directed homes for the mentally challenged, taught sign language, taught music, and did a lot of fund raising, on my own, to help Foster Children agencies, etc.. (for free). I worked with physically handi-abled children from the special schools, teaching them what they COULD do, instead of allowing people to tell them how disabled they were! My children all ended in regular classes at public schools. No special schools for these children! My husband and I own a furniture and appliance store in Eureka, CA, and it is about 38,000 square feet.........three floors! So, being 61, I am still running and up down long stairways every day. That keeps a body in shape! I graduated Pi Gamma Mu, and that only means that Humboldt State College decided that I was among the brightest 20 % of the world's people. I consider that to be book learning, and nothing else, but my mom thought it was wonderful, of course! I have two, by birth sons, and many, many sons and daughters who ended up with my guardianship. A yr and a half ago, I found a baby, 9 monts old, left on my back doorstep, and was able to keep the little guy out of the system, as I dislike Social Services way of always moving children around. I had pretty much 'reared' a young man who had been married for 15 yrs to a wonderful lady. They were unable to conceive, and took the little baby the first day. I was able to get them immediate guardianship, and then immediate adoption, as I knew how to work the system. That is a family made in Heaven, and I am very proud of having been able to be part of that blessing. One of my birth sons is working on his medical career, and the other is a building inspector. My husband runs the furniture and appliance store, 7 days a week! I, am basically back up, as I find so much pleasure with my sons and my grandchildren! I'm a very lucky young lady of 61. Remember, those of us with the most birthdays live the longest! Gladys covenly1@yahoo.com
